So now that I've announced the house and prepped you for some home improvement fun...let the show begin! As we were prioritizing the things on our punch list (before the ink had even dried on the deal), we decided that the kids' spaces were what needed to be tackled before anything else. After all, we couldn't even begin to hope to get much accomplished elsewhere if they didn't have a happy and comfortable spot in the house.
In addition to all of their bedrooms, we knew the little ones' play room had to be tackled sooner than later. It was originally a guest bedroom on the main level, but really was fairly small. As soon as I laid eyes on it, I knew it would make the PERFECT play room. It is separated slightly from the main areas of the house (like the kitchen and den), but is still easily accessible and is parked right next to the first floor bathroom. You mean I can cook while the kids play in their own space? Not under my feet? But I can still hear and see them fairly easily? Yes, please!

We will be changing out the flooring in here in the spring so that it has wood floors like the rest of the first floor, and I want to do a fun and funky pendant light, BUT... I think we've come a long way, baby!
We painted the walls a light color and added bead board, which I think really helped the room feel more open and airy. Yes, that's a stage in the corner. Doesn't it just make you want to kick your shoes off, run up there and sing? What? No? Guess that's just me.
Not pictured is a secretary that I made over into an arts and crafts cabinet. It works out well as a place to store and hide all of the glue/crayons/googly eyes and artsy craftsy stuff, keeps it out of easy reach of the little ones' hands, and gives me a workspace when we're doing crafts together.
I think this is my favorite room in the house right now. It's a nice distraction from all of the work waiting for us in the kitchen. Damnit.
