Well, in the kitchen at least. And it is a bit of a love story, just like the song. When I first laid eyes on the kitchen, I knew what had to be done, and it involved moving walls and building furniture, but I am so happy to say that we're almost done with our kitchen! YEA!
Last check in on this project, we had just installed our new stainless countertops and backsplash tile, but still had to get rid of the wraparound, move some cabinets and build a wall to open up the kitchen. Here's a peek at how the progress went down since we left off:

Things are really starting to take shape in here now! The wall is complete, the countertop on that side of the room is in, the tile is done, AND...we built an island. We looked around at some ready made ones over the last few weeks, and then decided that none we found offered the measurements we were looking for, so we just tackled it ourselves.
And it's on wheels, so if we ever need to move it out to free up some space, we can do it pretty easily.
We also replaced the...ummm....light...in the center of the kitchen ceiling. I have a hard time calling it a light because the fixture actually gives off very little light at all. And, it really isn't decorative either. We laughingly call it the scro-light because, well, it resembles a part of the male anatomy hanging up there. Take a look:

See what I mean? Not attractive, really, and not functional either. At least not there. I think it's because of the scale. The scro-light had to go.
Still to do in here: place our shelves over our sink area (already under way!), place the crown on the extended wall to finish that baby off, paint the cabinets & replace the hardware (coming soon), and fix the flooring (moving the cabinets revealed a section of the floor left unstained and with a need for a few new boards).
Everything should be wrapped up soon with the exception of the flooring, which will have to wait a bit since we plan to refinish the hardwood on the entire first floor, and we want to do this all in one shot. For now, the unfinished and yucky--yucky? Can you tell I'm a mom to a toddler?--spot will be covered by a mat since it's right in front of the sink. We're getting a lot closer to completion...woo hoo! I can't wait to come back and show you the before and after pics when we're done.
