I recently have been doing some looking around for books that would both entertain and provide great and age appropriate discussion points on Thanksgiving with my little people. I discovered some terrific finds that I wanted to share with you:
This book gives children the opportunity to learn where the food on their plates comes from and what's involved in planting, growing and harvesting. Watercolor illustrations pretty up the pages as you learn about each step. A couple of easy recipes and experiments are included.
Your little one can follow along in rhyme while counting and smelling (through scratch n' sniff) all that Theo piles on his plate as he prepares to eat his Thanksgiving meal.
The familiar Going on a Bear Hunt song has been adapted to a story with a fall focus as friends go on a leaf finding adventure together. Great fun to sing along as you follow them over a mountain and through a forest as they identify leaves and colors along the way.
A fantastic book promoting discussion with your children about the concept of being thankful. The idea of celebrating being thankful can seem to be on too large a scale for the toddler to preschool age child to understand. This book helps them identify all of the many things (big and small) they can be thankful for in their day to day lives.
Rich color and illustration accompany the re-telling of the first Thanksgiving in this lift-the-flap board book. Build excitement with your young child about the holiday and help them discover the history behind it.
A fun take on The Night Before Christmas classic. Read and follow along in all of the preparations as they're made for the holiday feast.
