Four Eggs ample (for example), the backsplash and counters--most of them--are now in!

Olive!
Olive who?
Olive the way this room is starting to come together!
Okay, sorry. I couldn't help myself. I AM loving the way the kitchen is coming together. While we waited on our stainless tops to be made, we decided to tackle the backsplash tile to really give the counters a nice, finished look once they went in. We were slightly torn on the tile for this project at first. Do we do white only, like this? Or mix in some gray tones, too, like this? Both options are so pretty! In the end, we decided having some gray tones would be a nice offset to the cabinets once they're painted white (which I plan to get to very soon!).
Because we chose to have our counters made without the upturn on the back, we went with a glass subway tile against the counters to help transition to the smaller tile pattern that covers the rest of the wall. It looks AMAZING.

And now, a shot of the finished job complete with the new tops:
It's just so bright and shiny! Pay no attention to the cabinets. Those will be white with new hardware soon enough, which will brighten up this space a ton. I can't wait to break out my paintbrush and go to work like a mad woman. It will make such a dramatic difference once I get that task completed.
Next on the list, however, involves a teensy bit of demo work. We'll be getting rid of the open wraparound counter on the other side of the kitchen and building out the wall to allow for more counter space (and to create more of a separation from the den). It'll also free up some kitchen space for a small island and allow the kitchen to flow into the breakfast area for a more complete feel. Once the wall is built, we can place the new top and tile on that side of the room, too. It will be great to open up this space!
Buh-bye, kitchen wraparound!
