Guilt finally got to me. It's a stealthy evil, that one. It's upon you before you even realize it. I had completely abandoned all of my to-do's on my home project list. With the holidays (and I'm talking Halloween through about now) it was hard to get focused. I kept thinking we were going to get started on our kitchen, so I stalled on most everything else. And to be honest, I had been running with enthusiasm in all things DIY since we moved in July, so it wasn't too hard to curb the pace somewhat.
Well, having all of that time off around the holidays made me feel like perhaps, just perhaps, I should be getting something accomplished at home. I had neglected my ol' project list for too long.
PROJECT LIST: Hello? Hel-lo?? Remember me? I'm still here.
ME: I'm sorry, did you say something? Oh, wait, I can't talk to you now because I'm too busy procrastinating.
So... I made my supply lists and hit up Michael's, Hobby Lobby and Lowe's. I broke out my staple gun and my glue gun and went to work. I was one bad ass gun slinging mama. Taking care of business. At least in my own mind.

I added a tulle canopy around Ella's bed and added some wall décor that I whipped up. It all ties in with their woodland themed room, and she is so excited about it!
I bought a couple of unfinished wood plaques from Hobby Lobby and one wood slice (with bark still on it) from Michael's. I added some white paint to the wood slice and then took out some paint pens to draw something fun but on theme once the white paint dried. I used some leftover walnut stain I had on hand to stain one of the plaques and then hot glued some wooden birds and branches that I picked up at Hobby Lobby. For the last plaque, I pulled out some leftover paint I had in the garage, dipped a paper towel into the rich turquoise color, and drug the towel across the wood plaque. I wanted to be able to see the wood grain through the paint, and didn't want it to have a completely finished look, so utilizing the staining technique worked great with this paint for this project. Once the turquoise paint dried, I attached an "E" that I bought some time ago and had put away. I ended up having a couple of small, wooden birdhouse ornaments among my supplies, so I used those to fill in some wall space.
It's fun and woodsy, but not too serious. It's silly enough that it fits perfectly for their room. I also have a string of fairy lights that I think I may swap out for a longer string. Once that's done, I'll be weaving the lights through the tulle canopy to create a little more fun.
Check out the new fabric I used to reupholster her toy box bench seat. I found this on clearance at Hobby Lobby for $4! I had really left this way too long. The previous fabric I had used on this bench had pinks, raspberries and browns and was done before Ella was born!
Okay, not feeling guilty anymore. I still have Ethan's side to do, but I hope to have that done soon.
Oh, and our kitchen project is now underway. We should have new countertops next week!
